Beyond Tech

While my technical experiences have shaped me as an engineer, my involvement outside the classroom has been equally meaningful in shaping who I am.

Throughout college, I've had the opportunity to take on leadership roles, work with people from different backgrounds, mentor fellow students, and contribute to the engineering community. Each experience has helped me grow in different ways, strengthening my communication, teamwork, empathy, and sense of responsibility.

I've learned the value of listening to others, understanding different perspectives, and working together toward a shared goal. These experiences have not only shaped how I approach leadership and collaboration but also influenced the kind of teammate and engineer I aspire to be.

FEATURE 01 / LEADERSHIP

Three Years with Engineering Council.

My journey with Engineering Council began in my second year of college, when I joined as Outreach Vice Chair. What started as an opportunity to become more involved in the engineering community grew into three years of learning, collaboration, and increasing responsibility. I later served as Outreach Chair before becoming President in my final year with the organization.

As President, I led a council representing more than 40 engineering and STEM student organizations, working closely with student leaders, faculty, the Dean's Office, Student Government, and industry partners. From coordinating college-wide events to advocating for student needs, the role gave me opportunities to grow as a leader and support the engineering community.

Building Together.

Engineering Council gave me the opportunity to work with an incredible group of student leaders from across different organizations. Whether planning events, coordinating initiatives, or collaborating on new ideas, I learned so much from people with different perspectives, goals, and experiences.

Milestones & Community.

From large-scale events to recognition and celebrations, Engineering Council has given me so many meaningful experiences and memories. These moments reflect the support, hard work, and sense of community that made my time with E-Council so special.

FEATURE 02 / LEADERSHIP & COMMUNITY

Building Community Through SASE.

My involvement with the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) brought together so many things I value: culture, community, science, and technology. Being surrounded by students with different backgrounds, interests, and perspectives gave me opportunities to learn beyond my own experiences and appreciate the different ways people approach ideas and challenges.

As Vice President of Internal Affairs, I worked alongside a team of more than 20 student officers serving a community of over 1,600 students. During my term, our chapter also organized the SASE Southeast Regional Conference, which gave me firsthand experience in the planning, coordination, and teamwork that go into bringing a conference to life. It was also an opportunity to connect with students and leaders from other SASE chapters, exchange ideas, and learn from their experiences.

What made SASE especially meaningful was the intersection of cultures, perspectives, and shared interests in STEM. It was a space where I could contribute as a leader while continuing to learn from the people around me. The experience broadened my perspective, strengthened my communication and collaboration skills, and reminded me how much growth comes from being part of a community.

FEATURE 03 / BEYOND TECH

Learning to Lead, Growing as a Person.

Bulls L.E.A.D. has been one of the most meaningful experiences in shaping who I am, both personally and professionally. As part of Cohort 5, I spent two years learning alongside a close-knit group of just 25 students through a leadership development program offered by the USF College of Engineering Dean's Office.

What made this program different was its focus on understanding ourselves before learning how to lead others. Through workshops and conversations about emotional intelligence, personal mindsets, communication, and self-awareness, I was encouraged to look more deeply at how I think, respond to challenges, and interact with people around me.

Being part of a small cohort also meant learning from people with different experiences and perspectives. The relationships we built extended beyond the workshops, creating a community where we could support one another's growth. Even after completing the program, I've remained connected through the Bulls L.E.A.D. alumni network and had the opportunity to help interview six prospective members alongside the Program Director.

Looking back, Bulls L.E.A.D. helped me recognize that leadership isn't just about the responsibilities you take on. It's also about understanding yourself, being open to different perspectives, and continuing to grow as a person.
